Rotorstock 6 Report - Sat 11th July 2009 in association with the Mazda Rotary Club
The weather man gave a grim prediction for Rotorstock’s forecast, but those who braved the morning drizzle were rewarded with a dry and sunny afternoon that provided exciting race action on the dragstrip and thrills and spills in the Need For Speed European Drift Championship.

The day started in the wet, but it didn’t stop hundreds of cars pouring into Santa Pod, with some rotary-powered cars coming from as far away as Ireland and Holland to attend the show. The rain put a few people off entering the show & shine competition in the morning, but we had no problem awarding the following three awesome cars trophies when they were presented at 2pm:

Best of Show - Malcolm Lowe – Skyline
This stunning and flawless R33 GTR had some nice performance mods that were perfectly executed. Malcolm later got his car on the track to take the 3rd spot in the RWYB hot hour, so it has the “go” as well as “show”. |

Top 3 – Jo Littlewood – Mazda RX4
A nicely kept example of a rare car with amazing paint and interesting modifications. |

Top 3 – Frank Hayes – Mazda Eunos
A great example of a highly unusual Cosmo 20B, in perfect red paint. |
Over on the dragstrip, things quickly got underway after a super-human track drying effort by the marshals, and the Run What Ya Brung competition was packed with excellent machines in all classes, and we were especially impressed with the hilarious antics of the high-rise 10-second Hilux that won class X! The top cars were as follows:
|
 |
Class A – Front Wheel Drive
Paul Waghor
Honda Civic Type R
13.446 seconds |
|
 |
|
 |
Class B – Rear Wheel Drive
Mark Salem
Mazda RX7
10.761 seconds
+ Hot Hour Second Place |
|
 |
|
 |
Class C – Four Wheel Drive
Robert Shadwell
Nissan Skyline
10.431 seconds
+ Hot Hour First Place |
|
 |
Class X – Non Road Legal
Ian Powell
Toyota Hilux
10.168 seconds |
The Run What Ya Brungers also shared the track with the HKS Drag Series, where some very close and exciting racing took place, with 9-second street cars and even a jaw-dropping wheelie from Roy Ashby’s street-tyre-shod Toyota MR2. Read a full race report at www.japdragseries.co.uk.

At the top end of the pits, the Need For Speed European Drift Championship saw Phil Morrison defeat Alan McCord in an exciting battle that kept bums on grandstand seats all day. You can read the full report here: On the EDC website here.
The day ended in Fuelers Bar with the excellent UB40 tribute band. Why UB40? We have no idea, but they certainly entertained, with great music and singing. The perfect end to Rotorstock as the rain started to fall again.
Thanks again to everyone who supported the event despite the bad weather forecasts. We hope to see you all again next year.
