Rotorstock 5 Report - 9/10th Aug 2008 in association with the Mazda Rotary Club

Read the full Rotorstock 5 report below and check out the photos in the Rotorstock 5 Gallery.

Rotorstock 5 took place at Santa Pod Raceway on the 9th & 10th August 2008, and unfortunately, dire weather predictions for Saturday proved to be accurate, and the dragstrip didn’t turn a wheel all day on Saturday. The Drift What Ya Brunger’s got good value from their tyres though, and there was good banter in the café and bar from those that had made the commitment to the whole weekend.

On Sunday however, the story was quite different, and we woke to sunny and breezy Santa Pod, which quickly got the track dry and the action underway. Once again, there was Drift What Ya Brung at the top of the pits, and the club stands filled up with all the cars that had stayed out of the atrocious weather the day before.

Over in the Meguiars show car paddock on Sunday, a small but top-quality collection of cars gathered to fight it out for the Show & Shine trophies. It was an all-Mazda top 3, but each was a worthy winner.

Best in Show
spacer Taking the “Best of Show” award was Mark Cadwallander’s pearl Orange Mazda RX8. A stunning and flawless exterior combined with a luscious custom interior made this the top car.

spacer In second place was Ian Searle’s orange and black RX7. With an outrageous wide-arch Veilside bodykit, great paintwork and simply stunning proportions, it was tempting to give this car the best of show award, but it had to settle for second in the face of such tough competition.

Third
spacer In third place was the immaculate Mazda Eunos (MX5) roadster of Jay Spendlove. The exterior and interior had largely been kept in excellent original condition, and he had done a simply stunning job of dressing up the engine bay.

The track was open for the Run What Ya Brung competition, the HKS Drag Series, and the Club RWYB competition.

Starting with the RWYB, the winners at the end of the day were as follows:

10 MX5Nutz.com Chris Roche Mazda MX5 17.07 88.4

The FTOC and MX5Nutz.com clubs failed to qualify after the super-harsh one-shot qualifier, and the top 8 clubs went into the knockout stages, which resulted in a superb turnout for rotary-powered cars taking three of the final four places. Congratulations to FDUK and Mark Salem, and thanks for everyone who took part.
